The Nature and Needs of Gifted and Talented Students is the second course in the T3 series. The course creates a learning environment for teachers to understand the foundations of gifted education and to develop a working knowledge of the needs of gifted learners. Teachers will explore six strands: History and Rationale of Gifted Education; Characteristics of the Gifted; Concepts of Intelligence, Achievement, and Motivation; Identification of the Gifted; Special Populations; and Accommodations, Models and Approaches to Meeting Needs. These topics will expand the user’s knowledge base in gifted education.
This CD-ROM is based on the state performance standards for teachers in gifted classes or courses. Teachers successfully completing this course will earn three hours of graduate credit and will have completed one of two required courses for endorsement in gifted and talented.
