The Last Auction

Responsibilities: Videographer

The last Auction is a one-hour ETV documentary on the history of Mullins, South Carolina. A rural tobacco town, and its struggle to reinvent itself, from a once thriving tobacco system. Now the impact is greater on the young who must weight their options in today’s changing economy.

This project was the second broadcast documentary that I was involved in. The approach on this assignment was very different than Keep it Real. We originally had decided to develop a documentary on the farming of tobacco, but we quickly realized that there was more to the story than just a history on tobacco, we needed to tell the personal stories.

This project took over a year to produce because we dedicated so much time to get to know the community. We spent countless hours in Mullins and made many friends. We hope to go back in the no so distant future, and develop a follow up show.
